Johanna DeMaine started potting in 1971. After traveling extensively in Asia and studying in the UK, she established DeMaine Pottery Studio Gallery in partnership with her husband Ted in 1975 to produce quality hand thrown tableware. She held her first solo exhibition in 1979.
Since then she has had 25 solo exhibitions and participated in over 60 selected group exhibitions. Her work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia as well as in public art galleries, museums and government collections both in Australia and overseas. She has also exhibited extensively overseas and her work is in the collections of HRH Queen Elizabeth II of England, Crown Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark, and the Governor General of Australia. Since 1981 DeMaine Pottery Studio Gallery has been located at Landsborough, in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, Qld, Australia, close to the Glasshouse Mountains from which Johanna draws much of her inspiration.
